chroniquesudaf, l'Afrique du Sud au quotidien

Curieusement, nous n'avons jamais parlé ou très brièvement de Sun City, pourtant dans toutes les brochures, les magazines et incontournables des émissions tv, radio, de voyage consacrées à l'Afrique du Sud. Curieusement ? Pas tout à fait. Car à vrai dire, nous ne sommes pas franchement  des adeptes de ce genre de lieux. Préférant largement la nature vierge, les grands espaces au calme olympien et la faune.

Cependant, Sun City, par son caractère démesuré, et unique au monde, mérite d'en parler.

Ainsi, Sun City est le “ Las Vegas sud-africain”, situé en plein cœur d’une région semi-désertique a 160 km de Johannesburg. Un projet pharaonique sorti ex nihilo. De nulle part. Sun City est un complexe impressionnant avec casinos, lacs artificiels, la vallée des vagues et le plus grand parc aquatique du monde !

Parmi les hôtels

Cascades
Erigé au coeur d’un parc tropical de 4 hectares, le Cascades est certainement l’hôtel du complexe de Sun City le plus en harmonie avec la nature. Piscine en cascades, rivières et étangs, grande variété d’oiseaux de toutes les couleurs et multitude d’arbres sont les éléments qui composent ce royaume. De sa décoration et son atmosphère chaleureuses à son service raffiné, tout a été pensé pour veiller au bien être de chacun.

Hôtel Le Palace
Hôtel de légende, The Palace of Lost City est incontestablement l’un des plus extraordinaires établissements au Monde. De l’architecture extravagante au sens poussé du détail décoratif, tout se veut ici parfait, mettant la démesure au service du rêve.

Parmi les divertissements

Waterworld, comme son indique le royaume des sports et activites nautiques pour tous les gouts : jet ski, ski nautique, watersnake, parachute ascensionnel, pedalo, etc.

La Vallée des vagues : plusieurs attractions aquatiques.

Casinos : Roulette américaine, Blackjack, Punto Banco, dés, Machines à Sous et Jackpots Progressifs. Paris des courses de chevaux.

Théatre : ce théâtre se trouve à l’Hôtel de Sun City et accueille les grands-spectacles, productions scintillantes, accompagnés de musique rythmée, de décors fabuleux, de saltimbanques et danseurs vêtus de costumes resplendissants.

Le Superbowl : Cette immense structure à multiple utilisation se trouve au Centre de Divertissement de Lost City. Elle accueille les superstars, les plus grandes rencontres sportives internationales ainsi que des expositions et des banquets.

Parmi les restaurants

Chaque hotel possede son, ses restaurants et bars. Un nombre impressionnant. Voici un inventaire non exhaustif : L’arlequin (cuisine classique contemporaine), Les Orchidées (orientale), La Calebasse
(cuisine sud-africaine), Le Bar du Lobby (bar élégant au coeur d’un paradis tropical. Choix de boissons et de cocktails), Le Bars de Touraco et du Martin-Pêcheur, le Bar-Grill de la Piscine (commandez votre boisson sans sortir de l’eau au “bar nautique”), Villa Del Palazzo (cuisine italienne), The Crystal Court Restaurant, etc.

Voilà un festival de très grande qualité qui revient chaque année. Celui du documentaire. Tous les genres. Tous les thèmes. Et de tous les horizons.

Documentaires généreux, profondemment humains, autant de fenêtres largement ouvertes sur le monde... 

Plus de 50 films seront projetés. Parmi les invités internationaux, citons :  Denis Delestrac (France / Espagne), Yoruba Richen (USA) et Stefanie Brockhaus et Andy Wolff (Germany),  Cliff Bestall, Rehad Desai, Jo Menell, Riaan Hendricks and Omelga Mthiyane.

Un programme très alléchant en dépit d'un budget malheureusement nettement en réduction. Donc félicitations à ses initiateurs et leur courage pour nous permettre une nouvelle fois de profiter de cet événement unique en Afrique du Sud.

Theme: South African Youth : “Being 20 years old in South Africa”

The Alliance Française of Cape Town is proud to be part of this competition and encourages members and students to participate.

The competition comprises 4 stages:
 
1/ Submission of photographs:
Non professional photographers must submit 2 pictures by 28 August 2010 .  Participation is free of charge.
The entrant has to submit digital files in JPEG(.jpeg) FORMAT of 1Mb maximum with a resolution of 1500 x 2100 pixels and 72 DPI (max)

2/ Jury selection in Cape Town:
The Alliance Française of Cape Town will select the winning photographer and submit his/her two pictures to the Fondation Alliance Française in Paris.
The top three photographers will be offered a joint exhibition at Alliance Française of  Cape Town in 2011.

3/ Jury selection in Paris
The Fondation Alliance Française in Paris will compose a jury of professionals working in  the photography and cultural industries. They will select 20 photographers from the entries received from around the world.

The jury’s decisions shall be based on the following criteria:
-Coherence of the approach
-Relevance to the subject of the competition.
-Quality of the photo: framing, originality, treatment of light, aesthetic...
-2 photographs per participant

The selected finalists will provide a JPEG file with a resolution of 3500 x 4700 pixels and 300 DPI.
 
The results will be posted at www.fondation-alliancefr.org after 17th September 2010. The 20 “Finalists” will be personaly informed by e-mail and/or by telephone.

4/ Final selection:
A final winner will be declared from the 20 finalists selected by the Fondation Alliance Française  jury.

- 1st Prize:
The winner will be awarded a one week stay in Paris (international transport and accommodation only) as well as the opportunity to present a solo exhibition in a gallery in Paris.
 
- Finalists :
The 20 finalists will have their photographs exhibited in a group exhibition on the occasion of the Gala Evening celebrating Courrier International’s 20th anniversary and at the 33rd International Conference of the Alliance Française in January 2011 at its gallery at 101 boulevard Raspail, Paris .
 
The selected photographs will also be published in the special 20th anniversary issue of Courrier International.
 
Eligibility
Entrants must be residents in South Africa and should not be professional photographers recognized for their work and living off their work. There is no age limit for the entrants.
 
Eligible Art forms
The entrants guarantee that the pictures submitted are original, unpublished (already published work is ineligible) and that they are the rightful owners (holding the copyright) of the works. In this respect,  each entrant is responsible for obtaining authorisation from any third party who has directly or indirectly participated in the production of the photograph and/or who considers having some form of right over the work and in such case the entrant shall be responsible for the settlement of any eventual payments.

Terms and conditions:
The “Winner” and the “Finalists” expressly grant the Fondation Alliance Française the unrestricted right, without any compensation, to reproduce, distribute, display at exhibitions and promote the work in any media now or hereafter unknown, all over the world, and for a period of 24 months from 18th September 2010.
 
The competition organisers will be responsible for printing the photos of the finalists for the exhibition at the venue of the 20th anniversary celebrations of Courrier International.
 
The Fondation Alliance Française alone will be responsible for determining the size/format of the prints, the framing and mounting and the general scenography of the exhibition.
  
Some guidelines:
  ·   Have the consent of the photographed persons.
· Anticipate that the reproduction of buildings (historic or recent) can give rise to copyright claims
·  Not reproduce urban designs which may be protected under third-party copyright law
·  Not represent any branded designs (cloths, furniture, objects)
· Not represent alcoholic or tobacco brands or any situation that shows that consumption is prohibited.
 
Technical Specifications :
· The entrant has to submit digital files in JPEG(.jpeg) FORMAT of 1Mb maximum with a resolution of 1500 x 2100 pixels and 72 DPI (max)
· The selected finalists will provide a JPEG file with a resolution of 3500 x 4700 pixels and 300 DPI.
·  The final print size will be in 30 x 40cm or 11.8 x 15.7 inches.

Et que le plus grand nombre possible puisse profiter de cet élan inespéré auparavant...
